# Permissions Overview

Octoclip aims for a consistent clipboard and sync experience across platforms, but OS privacy frameworks, clipboard-access policies, and background-execution rules make some permissions and setup steps differ by platform. Read the platform overview for your OS first, then grant only what you need. For a capability comparison across OSes, see [Platform differences](/advanced/platform-differences).

## Where to start by platform

- **Windows**: tray + resident behavior is relatively straightforward; see [Windows advanced features](/advanced/windows/) for deeper integration.
- **macOS**: many privacy gates; start with [macOS platform overview](/advanced/macos/), then [macOS permissions](/advanced/macos/permissions).
- **Android**: heavily affected by OEM power and background policies; start with [Android platform overview](/advanced/android/), then follow [background monitoring setup](/features/source/background-monitoring/).
- **iOS**: strictest clipboard timing and background rules; start with [iOS platform overview](/advanced/ios/), then [iOS limitations](/advanced/ios/limitations) and [Manual sync & Share entry points](/advanced/ios/manual-sync-sharing) as needed.

For capability boundaries across OSes, use [Platform differences](/advanced/platform-differences). If you already have a concrete symptom, use [Permission issues](/advanced/troubleshooting/permission-issues).
