# Account and license

> Octoclip licenses are a **one-time purchase, not a subscription**. Your purchase includes **1 year of updates**. After that window closes, the app and every paid feature you already have access to **keep working permanently** — nothing is taken away. Octoclip can be used for free first. Plans, pricing, and related commercial terms can change, so the docs site does not duplicate those details. Use the [official pricing page](https://octoclip.app/pricing.html) and the in-app license page as the source of truth.

## License tiers

There are two paid tiers — **Standard** and **Plus**. Both unlock the same set of paid features; the only difference is the number of devices where you can activate the license:

- Check current plans, prices, and activation limits.
- Review current commercial terms and upgrade entry points.
- Confirm whether a current offer is still available.

## What this docs page explains

| Concept | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Free use | You can install the app and validate the core flow first; current limits live on the pricing page and in the app |
| License-activated device | A device where paid features have been enabled through a license |
| Nearby Sync connected device | A device that can establish a direct Nearby Sync connection; this is separate from license activation |
| Cloud Sync | Requires a device with paid features enabled; setup details live in [Cloud Sync](/features/cloud-sync) |

## Connected devices vs activated devices

These are separate limits:

- **Nearby Sync connected devices**: devices that can establish direct Nearby Sync connections.
- **License-activated devices**: devices that can use paid features.

A free device can still connect through Nearby Sync when the connection conditions are met. It simply will not unlock paid-only features on that device.

## Moving a license to another device

A license is not always permanently locked to one machine. Use the license manager or in-app license controls to deactivate an old device and activate a new one. If you hit an activation issue, contact support with the email that receives your license, plus device and platform information.
