# Content types

How **text, images, files** differ in clip history for display, search, and reuse.

You can tell a clip's type by the icon or label shown on its history row.

## Typical types

- **Plain text**: usually easiest for search and cross-device smoke tests.
- **Images / files**: size and previews may differ; some target apps reject large or special payloads—verify by pasting. If paste fails, see [Cannot paste](/advanced/troubleshooting/cannot-paste).
- **Rich or mixed content**: depends on the source app and OS clipboard—verify by pasting. If paste fails, see [Cannot paste](/advanced/troubleshooting/cannot-paste).
