# Search and filter

Find clips faster in **clip history** using search keywords and filters.

## Search capabilities (Available since 1.13.0)

All platforms support:

- Search by **Pinyin** (Chinese romanization), **Romaji** (Japanese romanization), **alias**, or **single character**
- **Filter clip history by clip type** (e.g. text, image, code)

## How to find a clip

:::steps

:::step{title="Open clip history and the search bar"}
Open Octoclip's clip history panel and tap or click the search field.
:::

:::step{title="Type a keyword"}
Enter a keyword, Pinyin, Romaji, alias, or single character. The list updates as you type.
:::

:::step{title="Add a type, source, or time filter (optional)"}
Use the filter controls to narrow by clip type, source app, or time range.
:::

:::step{title="Select the clip"}
Tap or click the matching clip to copy or paste it.
:::

:::

**Success sign:** the list narrows to matching clips. If the list is empty, verify the clip exists in history and that no active filter is excluding it. Free plan users: only the last 24 hours of history is kept—older clips will not appear.
