# Temp Clip

Temporary clips are designed for short-lived content so sensitive or low-value data does not stay in history for long.

## Typical use cases

- OTP codes, one-time links, temporary tokens.
- Short-lived coordination text.
- Data snippets that should expire quickly.

## Workflow

:::steps
:::step{title="Create a temporary clip"}

Mark copied content as temporary.

:::
:::step{title="Use it in the target context"}

Paste where needed during the active task.

:::
:::step{title="Let it expire or remove manually"}

Clean up automatically by policy or remove it explicitly.

> [!WARNING] Sensitive content and retention
> For sensitive values, use short retention windows to reduce exposure risk.

## Common issues

:::accordion
:::item{label="Why is a temp clip still visible?"}

Check expiration settings and whether the entry was saved as a normal clip by mistake.

:::
:::item{label="Can temp clips be synced?"}

Depends on sync scope. For sensitive flows, keep temp clips out of cloud sync.

## Still stuck

If expiry, visibility in history, or sync scope still does not match what you expect, see [FAQ](/getting-started/faq) and [First-run troubleshooting](/getting-started/first-run-troubleshooting); sync choices: [Sync overview](/features/sync-overview).
